About the naming. This application is referred to on the market by commercial names. Because the Turkish regulation on advertising in health services excludes the advertising of products and brands (Article 5/1-h) and popular-culture names (Article 5/1-c), the clinical name is used on this page.
First, the position of the regulators
ACOG (the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists): states that G-spot augmentation procedures have no medical justification whatsoever and that there is no long-term scientific evidence of their effectiveness and safety; it warns doctors not to offer these procedures under the name of "sexual rejuvenation".
The FDA (the US Food and Drug Administration): has given no official approval for G-spot filler injections; it regards these applications as off-label.
The existence of the target area is disputed
Described in 1950, this is an area said to lie in the front wall about 5 cm above the entrance of the vagina.
However, in the medical literature there is no agreement as to whether it is an independent anatomical structure with definite boundaries present in every woman.
- Some studies report that a particular part of the front wall of the vagina is rich in networks of nerves and vessels.
- Against this, many independent studies, including twin studies, argue that no such separate structure has a physiological reality and that the sensitivity arises from the anatomical proximity of the clitoris to this area.
How is it done and what is used?
The procedure is carried out in the outpatient setting, usually takes less than 30 minutes and requires no rest period. The area is prepared with local numbing and the filler material is injected. After the procedure, abstaining from intercourse for 2–3 days is advised.
The groups of material used:
- Hyaluronic acid: the temporary material most often chosen; how long it lasts generally varies between 4 and 9 months.
- The person's own fat tissue: the transfer of fat taken from the abdomen or hip area.
- Collagen: temporary; it is fully absorbed in 6–8 months.
- PRP and similar approaches: these have recently taken the place of filler applications to a large extent. For details you can see the PRP to the Genital Area page.
- Permanent materials: materials that are not absorbed and do not move.
Serious risks that have been reported
The area injected is a delicate one between the urinary tract and the vagina. The risks reported should not be taken lightly:
- Pulmonary embolism: very rare, but the literature reports life-threatening pulmonary embolism developing when filler was inadvertently delivered into the network of veins in the area.
- Inability to pass urine: applying too much filler to the area can press on the urinary tract from outside and prevent urination; a catheter may be needed temporarily.
- Lasting loss of sensation (nerve damage) and pain during intercourse.
- Local infection, erosion of the tissue by the filler, and the formation of firm inflammatory lumps around the filler.
Who it is known to be ineffective in
This is information that may directly affect your decision: clinical data show that this application may help increase the intensity and duration of orgasm only in people who have previously experienced vaginal orgasm but whose sensitivity has decreased over time.
It has been clearly established that in people who have never experienced orgasm in their lives, it cannot start a new orgasmic function.
What needs to be assessed first
With a complaint relating to sexual satisfaction, the cause needs to be assessed first rather than a procedure chosen directly:
- Psychosexual assessment: ACOG recommends that before moving to surgery or filler, the person's psychosexual situation and the context of the relationship be examined carefully, and that people with body image disorder be kept away from these procedures.
- A buried clitoris: if the clitoris is covered by an excessively thick hood it cannot receive adequate stimulation. In such a situation an application inside the vagina alone will not solve the problem — see Clitoral Hood Reduction.
- Changes due to menopause: if there is dryness and thinning, these have well-established treatments — see Genital Laser and Body-Identical Hormone Therapy.
With any surgical procedure, results vary from person to person. You are advised to discuss the procedure with your doctor in detail beforehand.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this application approved?
No, and this should be known plainly. ACOG states that G-spot augmentation procedures have no medical justification whatsoever and that there is no long-term scientific evidence of their effectiveness and safety; it warns doctors not to offer these procedures under the name of "sexual rejuvenation". The FDA has given no official approval and regards the applications as off-label.
Does the G-spot really exist?
In the medical literature there is no agreement. While some studies report that a particular part of the front wall of the vagina is rich in nerves and vessels, many independent studies, including twin studies, argue that no such separate structure has a physiological reality and that the sensitivity arises from the proximity of the clitoris to this area.
I have never had an orgasm — will this application help?
No. Clinical data establish this plainly: the application may help increase intensity and duration only in people who have previously experienced vaginal orgasm but whose sensitivity has decreased over time. In people who have never experienced orgasm in their lives it cannot start a new orgasmic function.
How long does it last?
It depends on the material used. Hyaluronic acid is the temporary material most often chosen and generally lasts between 4 and 9 months. Collagen is fully absorbed in 6–8 months. The person's own fat tissue and materials that are not absorbed can also be used.
Are there serious risks?
Yes, and they should not be taken lightly. Although very rare, life-threatening pulmonary embolism has been reported after filler was inadvertently delivered into the network of veins in the area. Too much filler can also prevent urination and a temporary catheter may be needed. Lasting loss of sensation, pain during intercourse, infection and firm inflammatory lumps around the filler are also among the risks reported.
How is the procedure done — is there a recovery period?
It is carried out in the outpatient setting, usually takes less than 30 minutes and requires no rest period. The area is prepared with local numbing. After the procedure, abstaining from intercourse for 2–3 days is advised.
I have a problem with sexual satisfaction — what should I do first?
Rather than choosing a procedure directly, the cause needs to be assessed first. ACOG recommends that before moving to surgery or filler, the psychosexual situation and the context of the relationship be examined carefully. There may also be causes such as the clitoris being covered by a thick hood, or dryness due to menopause — causes that have well-established treatments.
