**Labiaplasty and vaginoplasty target completely different areas. What each procedure actually addresses, and where the confusion between them comes from.**

No — labiaplasty does not tighten the vagina. It is one of the most commonly confused points, but labiaplasty is performed entirely on the external genital area; it has no effect on the width of the vaginal canal or on the tone of the pelvic floor muscles. Below is what each procedure addresses, and where the confusion comes from. For details of the two procedures, see our [labiaplasty](https://www.muratalpay.com.tr/en/tedaviler/labioplasti/) and [vaginal tightening](https://www.muratalpay.com.tr/en/tedaviler/vajina-daraltma/) pages.

## What labiaplasty addresses

Labiaplasty is performed on the inner lips (labia minora), which form part of the external genital area (the vulva). The aim is to correct excess length, pronounced sagging or asymmetry of the inner lips, relieving physical discomfort such as friction and irritation during tight clothing, walking or sport. The procedure takes place entirely on the outside; nothing is done to the vaginal canal.

## Which procedures tighten the vagina

Procedures intended for vaginal tightening target an entirely different area:

- **Vaginoplasty:** performed on the inner canal running from the vaginal opening to the cervix. Loosened tissue is removed and the pelvic floor muscles are brought together and sutured, narrowing the diameter of the canal.
- **Perineoplasty:** targets the area between the vaginal opening and the anus (the perineum), and is generally performed to address the opening that can remain after childbirth.

## Why the two get confused

- **Loose terminology.** In everyday speech the word "vagina" is used for the whole external genital area, when the correct term is "vulva". That makes labiaplasty sound like a "vaginal procedure".
- **Umbrella marketing terms.** General expressions such as "genital aesthetics" can present very different internal and external procedures as though they were a single category.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can labiaplasty and vaginoplasty be done at the same time?

Because the two target different areas, they can in some cases be planned together, but this requires an entirely individual assessment.

### How do I know which procedure I need?

That can only be clarified with your doctor after an examination — a different procedure comes into question depending on whether your complaint relates to external appearance or to a sense of laxity in the inner canal.

Results and anatomy vary from person to person in any surgical or interventional procedure. It is advisable to obtain a detailed opinion from a specialist beforehand.
